How To Reinvent Your Staple Pieces

Hailing from South Carolina, a coast with the shoreline of subtropical beaches, pastel-colored houses, Freshwater pearls and an overload of southern charm. Irony would have it, a great pair of rustic denim warms my heart, tinkles my toes and suits my fancy like no other. Luckily for me and other denim addicts, jeans continue to reign supreme. A die-hard fan of a great pair of boyfriend jeans, the trick to taking your favorites from season to season is switching out how you’re styling them so they’ll never go out of fashion.

Over the years, the denim cut that looks and feels like I’ve borrowed them from my dad or dube, the former in which I have many times, earned their way as a core staple in my wardrobe and I don’t foresee that changing. But in the process of reinventing staple pieces, it’s best to build your look’s foundation with your staple piece and add on one-two at the most, on-trend items to make the look modern.

Not only because when styled properly they’re minimal, effortless and or so- chic.  Or, because they can be rocked fluent both casually and dressed up, boyfriend jeans are a great foundation piece that works for me all year round.  If you’re like me and have been rocking your boyfriend style for multiple seasons now, so what!! Listen, as long as they fit well and look great,  incorporate fall’s on-trend styles to one of my all-time favorite staple pieces for personal style distinction.

With my boyfriends, I tend to opt for a waist-flattering fit that’s contoured at the midriff and looser through the hip and thighs. While great boyfriend jeans have no rules, this fall I’ve found my personal style leaning towards pairing my ‘friends’ with tailored pieces forcing the jeans to fade into the background, while still holding their own. There’s no limit to personal styling options but for today’s vibe taking meetings in Atlanta and later hooking up with one of bff’s for dinner, I stuck to a more classic fashion look. A gorgeous, Andrew GN (I grabbed at a small boutique in Chicago) fitted black sweater with intricate woven details highlighting a sexy sheer finish through the bust and bottom half of the sleeves. The sweater is super feminine yet strong all at the same time!

To finish today’s outfit of the day (ootd), I threw on my Hermes Reversible H Belt and black Christian Louboutin So Kate. A feline print clutch (click for a similar), Michelle Tahitian Jelly Bean black watch and of course,  finished the look with a pair of classic Ray-Ban Polarized Aviator sunnies. While the fashion look is a classic for me, it’s on-trend and fresh thanks to how the pieces reinvented my staple denim.
