Ice cold lemonade, wide-brimmed straw hats, clam diggers and the soothing smell of fresh salt invading an early morning beach run have traditionally been top of mind for me in early May. I took a trip to my old stomping grounds, Chicago and dare not leave my hotel without my leather jacket. It feels the pandemic has brought a new existence along with it. A shift of sorts that’s affecting everything from the weather and politics to our moods, universal consciousness, and definitely Kanye.
I’m not sure what it is, but I’m trusting in forces bigger than myself to balance things out. In the meantime, I’m flowing with the new levels of uncertainty and trusting for the best.
In typical Courtney fashion, my life has been a direct reflection of how I’m perceiving our world at large: uncertain, and for the first time ever, embracing and flowing with the uncertainty. Things are changing within and all around me. As the ebbs and flows happen, I’m consciously flexible, trying my ‘damnest’ to remain focused on what’s in front of me: my family, my business, my dreams and the causes near and dear to me. What I’ve learned about uncertain times is the only thing you can control is your reaction to the things happening that you have no control of.
So as I wake up on these May mornings and the temps are less than desirable, I give thanks for another day, throw on appropriate winter fashion and slay through the responsibilities ahead of me. Refusing to waste time on complaining, reminiscing or wishing for anything other than the experiences of the present.
While I’ve delighted in rocking my black Marc Jacobs ‘moto’ leather jacket with a simple tank, Vince cargo pants and black Christian Louboutin booties; I will certainly embrace floral tops, flowing sun dresses and as many patio looks as my heart desires as soon as I return to Atlanta. For now, I’m basking in the chill moments and enjoying the journey!
