Summer Staple Pieces

by thebguide

I can’t complain about the mild winter we’ve experienced in Chicago this past winter, still for too long, warm weather has been a  complete NO show. With 50 degrees weather in June, on top of rainy and gloomy days after windy and chilly ones in July, I’m uncertain what kept the warm weather hostage, but I’m grateful glimpses of her are here!  I’m trusting after making her debut, she’ll settle for a while- So,  I’m gearing up my summer staple pieces and will take full advantage of everything she brings with her.

Right now I’m crushing on a functional pair of light-blue, 5-pocket shorts in a fab denim wash made from the softest organic cotton a girl could ask for. I scooped them at Nordstrom’s a few weeks ago and they’ve quickly earned their spot as one of my go-to shorts.

While my fashion-forward daughter Jala, has been loveing a great high-waisted jean for a few seasons, I wasn’t on-baord. But more recently, I’ve come to appreciate the figure-flattering piece + digging the shorter look paired with fuller, light-weight tops.

Today, I wore the high-waisted shorts with a flowing ivory, an oversized-bohemian top I grabbed at Zara. I capped off the look with a simple pair of suede, brown leather thongs. Later that evening, excited to swank it up a bit before heading to share a super fresh and absolutely delicious seafood tower with girlfriend at BLVD,  a hotspot I’ve come to adore for dropping glitz and glam in the heart of Fulton Market.

Y’all know I love my bling! The two-floor restaurant and lounge themed around a classic old Hollywood glamour decor called for an absolute swap out. I exchanged my cute thongs for a sexier pair of heeled sandals in the same cognac color as the leather cuff and clutch I recently made- and was dying to wear. I added simple diamond studs and a pop of Mac’s Ruby Woo – to my lips and the mood was set for my evening dinner.

Dinner didn’t disappoint and I’ll be back again to try other menu options. With the long-awaited warm weather in full bloom, a list of must-try neighborhood restaurants and my summer uniform on deck, I’ll be in chill mode, relaxing when not working+ enjoying my family  unbothered.
